John was born on June 20, 1940, if he had lived, he would be turning 79 at the end of the month. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In his early years, John attended elementary school at St Francis Xavier where he was an altar boy. He graduated from St Mary’s High School in 1958, and attended the University of New Mexico before entering the US Army. He was stationed in South Carolina. He returned to work at Albuquerque RTD as a bus driver.

He loved the ability to travel across the country and the world. John traveled with his nephew Donn E Green JR on the Tiger Cruse from Hawaii to Seal Beach California. His favorite travel was to Merida, Yucatan where he met his former wife Sylvia. They were married in 1967 and returned to Albuquerque. They traveled throughout southwestern United States and Mexico.

John had a big heart and helped his friends in need. He was loved by his family and friends because he was so kind. He truly relished the friends he made over his 37 years as a bus driver. He loved the socialization of the many people boarding the bus and kept in contact with friend’s through-out Albuquerque. Many people recognized him years after he retired as Big John the bus driver; whose friendly greeting helped them and their families get through the day.
