Mariano Antonio C de Baca, 85, passed away July 26, 2019, comfortably at his home in La Cienega, New Mexico.

Mariano was born October 22, 1933 in La Cienega to Conrado and Georgina Cde Baca. He traveled the world while in the Army, and all around the US as an Iron worker but always ended up in New Mexico. New Mexico is where his heart was, he had a never-ending love for the land and it’s history. Mariano had an adventurous and fearless spirit with a lifelong love for nature and the outdoors.

He loved people even more than the land and showed this love to everyone he knew.  Along with a million stories he loved to share, he always had a twinkle in his eye accompanied by a loving smile; and an occasional joke or two. The hardest working man around, who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. His love for people couldn’t go any deeper than the love for his family and friends. He was never afraid to offer a laugh, a hug and words of encouragement.  With a perfect balance of head and heart, he would say, “it’s just another bump in the road.”

Although our world was much brighter with him in it, we will now carry that light in our hearts. We’ll always remember his special smile, his caring heart, and the warm embrace he gave us.  He will be greatly missed, but his memory will carry on through the many fond and cherished moments we all shared with him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Conrado & Georgina, siblings, Conrado Jr., Victor, Theresa Mish, and son Carlos.

He is survived by his wife Mary La Fern; siblings Daniel, Marta Flock (husband Harry); children, Victoria Wienke (husband Roger), Ted (wife Mary), Richard, Antonio, Carmella C de Baca (husband George Cappello),  Amanda Skvorzov (husband Mike); grandchildren, Melissa De La Cruz (husband Eric), Steven Angelo “Steve”(wife Anne), Victor, Andres, Richard “Rich”(wife Amanda), Lincoln, Presley.

Great-Grand Children: Desiree, Destiny, Emelio, Jonathan, Alyssa, Ariana, Abigail, Caleb, Isabella, Issac.

Great-Great-Grand Children: Amber, Serenity, Ezaria, Jeremaiah.

Your father was a wonderful and kind man. We always enjoyed when he would stop by and talk with my mom and dad. Especially, when he was working on the new house. La Cienega lost a good person and bog part of the community. May you find peace as you go through this difficult time. My heart goes out to Mary and the rest of the family. Bernie Logue
