Lucero, Ernesto “Coach Ernie”, 64, May 5, 1955 – January 27, 2020, a resident of Gonzales Ranch, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday January 27, where he was reunited with the love of his life Esther Lucero his wife of 46 years.  He was born on May 5, 1955 to Dora & Martin Lucero. He is survived by his children Tanya Arrellin (Raynaldo), Dora Lucero (Tim), Ernesto Lucero his grandchildren Amalia Hernandez, Julie Tapia (Jason), Angelica Perez, Josh Hernandez, Lucas Arrellin, his great grandchildren Ezra & Jesiah Tapia & Kora Lial. His father Seledon Lopez, Mother- in- law Margaret Velasquez. His sisters Ruth Berridge (John), Isabelle Lopez, Patsy Sena (Steve), his “Twin” Theresa Velasquez (Tony), Sheila Lopez, Betty Maes, Carol Lucero, his brothers David Lopez, Chris Lopez (Judy), Gilbert Lopez (Tamara), Martin Lucero Jr. His mother in law Margaret Velasquez, Dolores Velasquez, Christine Juarez, Yvonne Cordova (John).  His god-children, Louie Lopez, Pete Juarez, Nakia Crespin, Merisha-Padilla Lopez (Frankie), Sgt. Jay Crespin (Lanae) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Mother Dora Lucero, Father Martin Lucero, Mother Sally Maes, Mother Priscilla Lopez, Father in law Tony Velasquez Sr., Roberto Lucero, Mary Lucero, Lee Lopez, Brother in law Joe Velasquez, Michelle & Joe Velasquez.

“Coach Ernie”, worked for the City of Albuquerque until he retired, The State of New Mexico until he retired, and West Las Vegas Schools, he was also the Vice President of his beloved Gonzales Ranch Water Association.  He loved spending time with his kids, and his grandbabies, he enjoyed his “baby” Lady Blue, and his beloved Mari, his four-legged kids.

Coach Ernie started his coaching career at Mt. View Little League, where he coached the “Coyotes”, in the boys major league division, then he went on to coach at South Valley Little League, where he coached his beloved “Orioles”, his Senior Girls team, then at Atrisco Little league.  He was very passionate about softball and helped inspire many young athletes to pursue their dreams and be the best they could be.

Visitation: Sunday, February 2, 2020, 2:00 pm where he will lay in wake at the Santa Teresita/San Isidro Catholic Church at Gonzales Ranch, NM.  Rosary:  Monday February 3, 2020, 9am, Santa Teresita/San Isidro Catholic Church, CELEBRATION of LIFE: Monday February 3, 2020 at 10:00 am, INTERMENT: immediately following at Santa Teresita/San Isidro Catholic Church Cemetery.

 

The following will be serving as pallbearers: David Lopez, William Leach, Marcello Lopez, Josh Hernandez, Pete Juarez, Christopher Lopez.
