Howard Kenneth Buford Jr., Age :73

May 27,1946---Mar 14,2020

Howard Kenneth Buford, Jr. was born on May 27, 1946 to Rita and the late Howard Kenneth Buford, Sr. in Chicago, Illinois.

Affectionately known by close family and friends as Mikey, Mike, and Buford.  Growing up with 4 sisters, Mike became the man of the household as a teenager. Mikey was educated through the Chicago Public School system, he attended Cornell Elementary School and Hirsch High School. In 1963, at the age of 17, Mike joined the United States Army and served for 7 years before receiving an honorable discharge in 1971.

After serving his country, Mike returned to his hometown of Chicago and started a successful career in Printing at the University of Chicago, where he worked for several years.

In 1982 Mike moved from Chicago to Albuquerque, New Mexico to start a new chapter of his life. Upon arriving in Albuquerque, Mike began working as a printer, which he quickly learned wasn’t a good fit due to its limited interaction with people.  Mike then started his own lawn care business which he ran for 4 years.  It was also in Albuquerque where Mike met Saundra Anderson who he later married and welcomed a son Kendric Anderson Buford in 1989.

Shortly after becoming a father and retiring his lawn care business, Mike found his sweet spot and began a career selling Albuquerque’s finest cars.  During his first position at Baca Chevrolet Mike became fast friends with Rodney Baca and began spending many hours as part of the Baca hot air balloon crew and spent a decade crewing. As a hobby during his ballooning years, he took up photography and presented several balloonists with his photos. After leaving Baca Chevrolet, Mike sought employment at Rich Ford, Bob Turner’s Ford, Power Ford and Melloy Nissan.

Mike will best be remembered for his sense of humor, smile and infectious laugh love of travel, ballooning, golf, and his delicious homemade preserves made from fruits grown in his garden.   Most of all, Mike was known for his ability to tell his favorite and the world’s BEST jokes!! You could always count on him to deliver a great punch line to an attentive audience.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Howard Kenneth Buford, Sr. and sister Carolyn Buford Ford. He is survived by his wife Saundra Anderson Buford, a son Kendric Anderson Buford; mother Rita Allen; sisters Marilyn Buford Stevens, Patricia Buford-Cooper and Denise Allen; in-laws Kenneth and Jean Anderson, and Sidney and Karen Quinlan; nieces and nephews British, Kenneth, Ashley, Saundra, Kenny and Krissy; great nephews Julian, Joshua, Jalen & Julian and a host of family members and friends.
