Minnie Valdez, Age :95

On Monday August 24, 2020, Minnie Valdez, loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 95 years old.

Minne was born on July 2nd, 1925 in Vadito, NM to Maria and Jose Benito Valdez. She attended Penasco Schools and graduated in 1945. She then received her certificate for teaching in 1950 and later went on to graduate with her Associates in Early Childhood Development Education in 1965 from New Mexico Highlands University. She was also recognized as one of the first teachers of the Vadito, New Mexico’s Head Start Program which was also initiated in 1965. On May 10th, 1961 Minnie gave birth to her only son, Antonio Roberto Valdez. She raised him in Vadito NM, at the Ranch in which she grew up in.

Minnie had a passion for learning. She also loved singing, cooking, gardening and visiting with all of her beloved friends and family. She was known for her quick wit, her intelligence and her heart warming, infectious personality. Those who knew her well knew that she had such a positive outlook on life and faith in Christ like no other. She was a devout Catholic and she loved singing church hymns with her grandchildren in her later years. Minnie also had a very strong work ethic that was instilled in her at a very early age. She worked from sunup to sundown on the Ranch and also excelled in many of her career goals.

She was survived by her son Antonio Valdez and grandchildren Renee Michelle Perez (Michael) and Anthony R. Valdez Jr. and also survived by her brother Octaviano A. Valdez. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Maria and Jose Benito Valdez and siblings Corina V. Duran (Roger), Ismael Valdez, Cleofas Valdez, Carlotta Valdez, Jose Benito Valdez II (Brenice), Miguel Antonio Valdez, Juan Pedro Teodoro Valdez (Twin brother) (Ofelia), Theresa Knisely, Estella Barreras (Michael Sr.), Gilbert Valdez, Juan Valentin Valdez (Lois), and sister-in-law Elvia Valdez.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 10th at 11:00am at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church, Penasco, New Mexico. Due to COVID restrictions, attendance is limited to 85 people.  There will also be no rosary at this time. Interment is to follow at Vadito Cemetery, Vadito, NM.
