Joe Henry Trujillo, Age :78

Dec 19,1942---Dec 28,2020

Mr. Joe Henry Trujillo passed away in the early morning of December 28, 2020, while in the care of the Beehive Homes of NM, where he has lived with full care for the last few years.  Joe was born to Antonio (Tony) Trujillo and Beatrice Salas on September 19, 1942 in Cuervo, NM.  He grew up near Santa Rosa, NM where he graduated in 1960 from Santa Rosa High School.  After graduating, Joe served his country as an active member of the US Navy from 1960 to 1966 when he was honorably discharged.

He then spent much of his adult life in Albuquerque, NM, residing and sharing life with his father, Tony.  During this time, he dedicated many years to his civil service work as a nurse's aide and laboratory technician for the Veteran’s Hospital in Albuquerque.

He loved outdoor adventures, especially hunting, fishing, and camping. Joe loved socializing and could often be seen at the American Legion visiting friends and performing dance moves that will never be forgotten. He enjoyed helping with projects (especially outdoors) for friends and family.  He loved dogs, especially his pet of many years, Chianti. A family friend recalls that “he was always happy, striving to have fun, and never had a bad thing to say about anyone.”

His post-service life brought physical and mental challenges, to which he ultimately required full time care.  His special caretakers were like angels, enabling Joe to receive love each day, some treating him as if he were family.  Late in his life, Joe could be ornery and was endearingly nicknamed “grumpy gills.”  A friend and caretaker recently stated, “Joe was a very sweet unique man…His smile brightened up my day - especially his deep dimple.”  Joe will be remembered and missed by those who cared for him and loved him throughout his life.

Joe is preceded in death by his father, Tony Trujillo, who raised and loved him until his own death, by his family friend, Joe Garcia, who treated him like family until his own death, and by his mother, Beatrice.   Joe Henry Trujillo will be buried and honored at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.  No services are planned due to the pandemic.
