Betty Arlene Canaday

Betty Arlene Canaday was born February 13, 1942 in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Pauline and Truman Thornton. She attended Rio Grande High School, graduating in 1960. Betty was a member of the Meat Cutter’s Union. Betty loved her family and enjoyed trips to the family ranch, singing with her boys and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a free spirit with a gypsy soul who was always the life of the party. She had a big heart and adopted strangers to become part of her family. She loved her boys more than anything—There’s a special place in Heaven for the mother of 5 boys! She will be missed by all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her 5 precious boys, Jeff Overson (Mary) of Tijeras, NM, Paul Overson of Los Lunas, NM, Mike Overson (Sherry) of Carlin, NV, Shawn Demaline (Shellie) of Lawrence, KS, and Jody Demaline (Kelli) of Gardner, KS. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Jeremy, AJ, Tyler, Tiffany, Wayne, Joey, Anna, Jessica, Joshua, and Kayleigh, numerous great-grandchildren, sister Shirley Grove, Albuquerque, NM, Aunt Dutch Moshier, San Diego, CA, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents Pauline and Truman, sister Viola Hernandez and brother Alton Thornton.

Betty has been cremated. A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 2-4pm at Riverside Funeral Home 225 San Mateo NE Albuquerque, NM 87108.

Celestins October 10, 2017

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Ms. Betty. May the family find comfort and peace from God’s promises for the future. Acts 24:15 assures us that God will soon bring billions back to life by means of an earthly resurrection. Isaiah 25:8 offers this heartwarming promise to us, “And he will swallow up death forever, And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe the tears from all faces.” We all eagerly await the fulfillment of this wonderful promise from our Heavenly Father.
