Millard Curtis Heckel

Millard Curtis Heckel passed away peacefully in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, February 3,
2018 at the age of 84.
Curtis is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marilyn Joan Heckel. They were married in
Lyons, Kansas on June 4, 1953.
Curtis is lovingly remembered by his four children Wylie Heckel, Wanda Heckel, Lorinda
Crumrine and Rodney Heckel; five grandchildren Heather Yonkers, Heath Heckel, Valerie
Heckel, Shane Thornton and Brandon Thornton; and seven great-grandchildren.
Curtis is predeceased by his parents, George and Francis Heckel and his brother Gene Heckel.
Curtis was born in Sterling, Kansas on October 18, 1933. He graduated from Sterling College in
with a teaching degree and went on to earn a Master’s Degree from the University of South
Dakota. He served in the Navy during the early 1950s. He worked as an Honors Biology teacher
for more than 20 years at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, CO before
retiring and moving to New Mexico 28 years ago.
Curtis was a loving and kind man and will be missed by those that knew him.
