Patrick Michael Sheedy, 71, Passed on October 2, 2018 under the care of Hospice.

Predeceased by his father, Capt. Robert David Sheedy and his mother, Anne Elizabeth Smith, his brother James Hunter Smith, 2 nephews and a grandchild.

Survived by his spouse, Carole Rose Sheedy of Albuquerque, NM, his son, Patrick Michael Sheedy of Munich, Germany, Stepdaughter Kim Murphy (Timothy) 1000 Oaks, CA and Stepson Michael Burnett, (Rosa) Rosemont, CA as well as brothers Robert Sheedy(Evelyn), Roosevelt UT, Michael Sheedy, Palm Harbor, FL,  John Mason-Smith (Donna), Perdido Key, FL, sisters Rita Smith and Kristina Higgins(Adrian), of Tampa FL and a Brother-in-Law, Donald Mornac (Jewel). Patrick will also be mourned by 36 nieces and nephews, 8 grandchildren and a great granddaughter.

Patrick was born in in Pasadena, CA on October 15, 1946 and as the son of an Air Force Officer grew up in CA, NM, MS, and Tampa, Florida. He joined the Air Force himself in 1965, and was honorably discharged in 1970, having attained the rank of Sergeant. While serving as an Aircraft Navigation System Repairman in Germany, Pat married Marlies Hummerich.  Pat accepted an honorable discharge in 1970 and came back to the Tampa Bay, Florida Area to raise his family. His namesake, Patrick Michael Sheedy Jr, was a product of that marriage

Patrick’s Career was that of an Electronic Engineer, a field that took him from Florida to the Los Angeles, California area, where he met and married his current wife Carole, and then to Albuquerque, NM, where he eventually retired. Carole was an electrical technician, and that union lasted more than 35 years.  Patrick’s areas of expertise included automated test system design, system calibration and repair, metrology, and quality analysis.

Patrick’s passion was Hang Gliding.  Patrick logged almost a thousand flights and competed all over the world. He was a member of The United States Hang Gliding Association Inc, which awarded him the rating of Master. Among other awards, he took both First Place overall and First Place in Landing Spot at the 1993 Sandia Flying Association Fly In. He loved being a pilot and was a mentor to many young hang gliders in Albuquerque.  

Patrick was a happy and content man, fun to be around. He told his sister, “I had a good wife and I had a good life.”

The family will receive guests on Monday October 8, 2018 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. On Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 9:45 AM Patrick will be honored with a Committal Service at the Santa Fe National Cemetery and Shrine, 501 N Guadalupe St. Santa Fe, NM 87501.
