Luz Elena Montoya
October 07, 1962 -- October 05, 2018

Luz Elena Montoya passed from this world in the late morning hours of Friday, October 5, 2018.      She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Luz is survived by her husband, Ruben Montoya, her two children Jonathan Isaac Montoya and Tiffany Elise Montoya, son-in-law Travis Crofton, her father, Roberto Valles, and her five brothers, Robert, Carlos, Luis, Eddi, and Edmundo Valles. Luz had been battling cancer since May of 2014.

Luz was born in Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico on the 7th of October 1962. Her unwavering strength, faith, optimism, and bravery kept her in the fight until our Lord called her to Heaven. She was always reassuring her family and friends with her favorite quote: “I’m okay”. Luz is now at peace and happily reunited with beloved relatives who have gone before her. Her legacy will be carried on by family and friends who have been inspired by her strength, courage, tireless work ethic, child-like silliness, and unlimited generosity. Luz was a loving person always greeting everyone with a smile and people naturally gravitated to her because of her warm personality.

Luz devoted most of her adult life to the construction/planning industry as an architect and as a city planner for the City of Albuquerque. In her final years she served as the Building Safety Manager, Plan Review Section for the city.

Her family would like to encourage everyone to maintain their health and check themselves regularly for the sake of cancer prevention. If anyone wants to make any donation, her favorite charity was St. Jude’s Hospital. She always felt it was unfair for children to contract and battle such a horrid disease.

Our body is a gift from God; it is the vessel we need to fulfill our mission. We must nourish it. But, at the same time, our body does not define who we are. So, when this mission is finished, we must become one again with God. She will be sorely missed by those that were fortunate enough to know such a beautiful woman. Now, Luz is pain-free and flying with the Angels.

Memorial viewing services and Rosary will be October 10th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Riverside Funeral Home (225 San Mateo NE, ABQ NM).  Church service will be October 11th at Immaculate Conception church (619 Copper Ave. NW, ABQ NM) at 10:00 am. Burial will be immediately after at Mount Calvary cemetery. (1900 Edith NE, ABQ NM)

I read the obituary about Luz, and everything that was stated is the way I will always remember her. I sent a picture of her when she was happy, and it was for my retirement. She was always asking for my son. She would say "How's my Boy", her Birthday is the day after mine, and I always remembered her, we would celebrate it at work. Everyone loved Luz, she was a beautiful person, and was always there for anyone, and would go the extra mile for her customer's, coworkers, and friends. I just saw her about 2 months ago, and yes she said to me, "IM OKAY - Carol, I'm ok!" She was the only supervisor that would stay late for the holiday's and let her employees go home early to be with their families. I will always remember her, and everytime I wear and see a butterfly I will think of her. God Bless you Luz! Rest in Peace. Your with God, and all the beautiful butterflies, and angels in heaver. Love Carol Quintana

Luz is just like her name, a light (bright light). She was always going above and beyond to assist customers at the planning counter, rich, poor, knowledgeable and not so knowledgeable, she treated everyone with integrity, compassion and unconditional assistance. She was the real picture and demonstration of genuine customer service. When I was feeling frustrated or tired, I would see her assist everyone all day long with no complaint, she inspired me to keep keeping on. My prayers for peace and strength to her family and friends. "Luz you were and will always be the light of compassion for all who were blessed to be touched by your genuine presence".
