We will all miss our fun-loving brother, uncle and friend whose greatest pleasures were playing his saxophone, fishing, working out, travelling, gardening and hanging out with family and friends. He had great interest in helping and passing on his wisdom to his young family members. He was an accomplished musician, accountant, an avid reader, and a martial artist earning a black belt in TaeKwonDo. In his later years he even dabbled in painting and was “googling” something new every day.

Funeral mass will be held Saturday, Nov 3, 2018 at 9:00am at St. Anne Catholic Church., 1400 Arenal Rd SW 87123.  Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Luncheon will be back at the church hall to celebrate Joe’s life.  Floral donations can be sent to St. Anne Catholic Church. Honorary Pallbearers are Mike, Donovan, Phillip, Amador and Patrick.
A special thank you to the heroic efforts of the brilliant staff and physicians at UNM Hospital Medical ICU, who diligently and unwaveringly cared for our Joe, all the while including the family in decision making and honoring Joe’s wishes.

Joe holds a very special place in our hearts. My children and I did many camping, fishing and other trips from 1987 to 1999. He was a special person. Our deepest condolences.

I wanted to add my condolences to the Gonzales' family and friends. Unfortunately, losing our loved ones in death is something all too common to humankind today. Thankfully, the Bible holds out a future for us that can bring us great comfort. This is mentioned at Isaiah 25:8, it says God will "swallow up death forever" and "wipe away tears from all faces." How wonderful this hope is, and soon we will be able to see our loved ones again.

I am so sorry about Joe; he was always so nice and was a great friend to my son, Richard Fortune. He went too soon.
