Obituary of John Wilson

John C. Wilson, Jr. of Albuquerque, age 75, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2021. The day before, John had a chance to say good-bye to his wife Linda, their daughters Kim and Tracy, and his sister, Janice, and her husband, Bob.

John was born on December 14, 1945, in Artesia, New Mexico, to John C. Wilson Sr. and Marjorie Marie Wilson, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda of 40 years, sister Janice (Bob) and their son John and daughters Jen and Jackie, daughters Tracy (Justin) and Kim (Jamie), and grandsons Aiden and Brennan.

If only John could have known the outpouring of love and affection from friends and family immediately upon his passing. He was loved and admired by many people for the fun, caring, and loving person he was. He will be sorely missed.

John grew up in Carlsbad, NM, and Albuquerque, NM. He earned a Purple Heart while serving in the Army in combat during the Vietnam War during his tour in 1964-5.

In 1971, John earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, University of New Mexico, a Master of Arts (summa cum laude) in Business Administration, University of Northern Colorado in 1976, and also was a distinguished graduate of the Air University Professional Military Comptroller in 1978. John’s career spanned 25 years with both the United States Air Force and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He was a Certified Public Accountant and held many Professional Designations, including in Cost and Price Analysis and Contract Management.

John was one of only five candidates to be selected for the TOP RUNG cadre, which is a federal program to develop future managers into Senior Executive Service, SES. He went on to serve in SES as a DV-4, a 3-star flag equivalent. In 2000, he retired from federal service and went to work as a consultant in private industry.

John met Linda in Denver in 1980. Due to the many facets of his career, his family moved from Albuquerque where their daughters were born, to Centerville, Ohio; Westford, Mass.; Oakton, VA and Purcellville, VA, before retiring in New Mexico.

Despite extensive travel throughout his career, John attended his daughters’ soccer games and school functions throughout their childhoods. He was a loving husband and father and cared deeply for his family. As a boy he was ambitious, selling chicken eggs to neighbors and the Carlsbad Current-Argus on his paper route; and played softball in Little League. Later he became a motorcycle enthusiast, and even after having Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for Parkinson’s Disease, rode his motorcycle for 12 years with Linda in the passenger seat behind him.
