Obituary of Leonore Mae Garcia

Leonore Mae Garcia, 62, of Albuquerque went to be with Our Lord peacefully on June 9, 2021 surrounded by her loving family and friends at home. Leonore was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She will truly be missed by all.

She leaves behind a husband of 40 years, Barry Garcia; children Jerome, Veronica, James and Darryus; grandchildren Dominic, Laurah, Antonio, Jada, Imani, D’Angelo, Amaiya, Irisa; greatgrandchildren Jaden, Elijah and Isaiah; sisters Louise Naranjo, Leona Chavez and Lucia Concho; and many relatives from Cochiti and San Felipe pueblos.

She was preceded in death by her loving daughter Laurah Manuelita Chavez; father and mother Lawrence and Lillian Chavez; siblings Leon and Lorraine Chavez.

Leonore was a very kind, loving, extremely caring and generous woman. She never turned away anyone in need, no matter the situation. Her life’s desire and hope was to help and encourage others to live a life of righteousness that leads to their own passion. Leonore moved to Albuquerque in 1979 where she met her husband, turned to faith, and began their family where they raised them for the past 40 years. She received an Associate’s Degree in Business in 1979 and started a successful career with the federal government in the Indian Health Services up until the day our God called her home. Despite her demanding position in her job, Leonore always made time to attend her children and grandchildren’s many athletic events, school functions and milestone celebrations. Her favorite hobbies included helping others, selling her arts and crafts and going to the casino. She loved to arrange family gatherings solely to enjoy the company of loved ones. She was known for hosting her annual Easter celebration at Sister Cities Park. Those who attended will remember the many joyous times together. Leonore was hope, strength and love. When you needed support the most, she was there. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t answer. She always had words of encouragement for anyone she came across.

She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. May her radiant love continue to shine down on us all.

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:13
