Maurice Maddux

Obituary of Maurice Maddux

Maurice (Shorty) Maddux was born in Tulsa, OK, on December 18, 1932 to Marshal and Lela (Bullock) Maddux. Shorty passed away on August 23rd, 2021 with his wife Charlotte by his side.

Shortly after graduation, Shorty was drafted into the Army where he spent most of his time stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA. After his discharge he went home to Oklahoma to see his parents and started back to Phoenix to work with an uncle. They ran out of money in Hobbs, NM and spent over 50 years there working, camping, riding motorcycles and enjoying his family.

On his 70th birthday, Shorty decided he wanted to learn to play the guitar. He went to Walmart and purchased a cheap guitar. Two weeks later he purchased a good guitar, learned to play it pretty good and decided to sing. He spent many years playing and singing with different senior groups in the Belen, Albuquerque, and Rio Rancho area.

In 2006, Shorty and Charlotte decided to get closer to the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids and moved to Belen. Then in 2011 moved to Rio Rancho.

Shorty was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years Charlotte, son Gary (Julia), daughter Diane Harrison (Mel), granddaughter Michelle Maddux, grandsons Steven Maddux, Jeremy McClellan and Beau Harrison, great granddaughters Kaitlyn Burke, Ella Maddux and Alura McClellan, great grandsons Aiden Burke and Avery McClellan.
