Obituary of Carole Mellin Thompson

Carole Mellin Thompson, a retired real estate agent and resident of the Villages, Florida died unexpectedly on December 28,2021 at the age of 79 while on vacation with her son and grandchildren in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Carole is survived by her beloved son, Patrick Mellin of Maryland; her grandchildren Aidan and Rowan Mellin; and her sister Marilyn Burney of Texas.

Carole was born Carole Elaine Ford on September 8,1942 in Springfield, Illinois.  She graduated from Oklahoma State in 1964, and married Jeffrey Mellin shortly thereafter before moving to NYC and returning to graduate school at Columbia University. She later remarried, and her husband Harold Thompson predeceased her.

Carole was a kind and generous woman, a champion of science, and a progressive thinker. She had a zest for life and learning. She was an avid world traveler and enjoyed many vacations. She was a real estate investor for 3 decades, a prolific sewer, a regular ballroom dancer, and a bridge player. She was a member of Sparkles, a social club for women. In earlier years, she was an avid tennis player. She will be deeply missed by her son, family and friends, and all who knew her.

You can honor Carole by teaching someone how to sew; by adopting an animal who needs a loving home; or by making a donation to all causes in favor of a greater nation, specifically in favor of efforts against Trumpism.
