Obituary of Viola Padilla

Viola Padilla 4-1-36 to 12-17-21

Viola Nolasco was born on April 1, 1936 to Mary Sanchez and Mariano Nolasco. Her mother died when she was only 6 years old and was raised by her grandparents Alfredo & Ricarda Sanchez. She grew up in Martinez town and attended Albuquerque High School. She met the love of her life at the Old Town fiestas & married Joseph Thomas “Georgie” Padilla on January 30, 1954. They had four children, a daughter & 3 sons.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Joe, sisters Priscilla Smith & Inez Sandoval, sons Thomas & Ray. She is survived by her daughter Lucy, son Ron & wife Juliana, grandchildren Adria Padilla, Yvette & husband Chris Romero, Jeremy & wife Shelly Padilla, Jacob Padilla, Joseph Padilla & Erika Martinez. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Gabriella, Tyler, Therese, Alyana, Jonathan, Evan, Aniela & Jeremiah; her godchildren Yolanda Goodloe and Carlos Smith, several nieces & nephews, dearest cousin Chella Van der Haak, many other relatives & friends.

She worked at Sunbell in the polishing dept. until it was sold. She then worked at the Science building at UNM. She retired from there but couldn’t stay idle long & went to work at APS in the cafeteria at several different schools. She was a strong woman who loved life & her family. She loved to listen to Spanish music; her favorite musicians were Vicente Fernandez & Selena. She loved to dance, especially at the Old Town fiestas or in the living room with her grandchildren & great grandchildren.

She loved to cook and no one could make macaroni better than her! She always made Easter, Thanksgiving & CHRISTMAS special. She believed in GOD & thanked HIM for His many blessings!! She was fondly known as Gramita to all of her grandchildren & Nina to her nieces & nephews.

She traveled to several surrounding states, Hawaii, Bahamas, and several Cowboys games. Luc took her on a cruise. She loved the Lobos basketball & football teams. She used to listen to the games on the radio, wrote down & kept the stats. She loved going to the East Mountains to pick pinon.

A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, January 27th, 10:00 AM, Legacy Church Y&U facility, 7201 Central Ave., NW, Albuquerque, NM, 87121. Pallbearers are Joseph Padilla, Tyler Lovette, Jonathan Romero, Anthony Smith & Carlos Smith.

She went to her heavenly home, with a Cowboy mansion of course, on Friday, December 17th. She will truly be missed!!
