Obituary of Marylou Y Chavez

Marylou Yolanda Chavez, 65, of Santa Fe, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022 with her loving family by her side. She is preceded in death by her parents: Nevarez and Susie Armijo; grandmother: Romana Dalton; niece: Elizabeth Tapia; and sister-in-law: Jeanette Chavez.

She was born in Silver City, New Mexico and was raised in Pecos where she graduated with the Class of 1975. She worked many years caring for individuals with disabilities. Some of her hobbies included traveling with her husband, going to the casino, and spending time with her siblings. Her son and grandson were her pride and joy, and she had a special love for her nieces and nephews. A beautiful and strong woman, Marylou lived her life to the fullest, and requested that everyone wear purple in honor of her favorite color.

Marylou is survived by her husband of 30 years: Jesse Chavez; son: Daniel M. Quintana (Stephanie Martinez); grandson: D.J. Quintana; sisters: Abbie Tapia (Patricio) and Olivia Quintana (Nick); brothers: Pat Armijo (Molly) and Michael Armijo (Victoria); beloved nieces and nephews: Jerome (Karen), Jerald (Leslie), Lucinda (David), Jacob (Hannah), Jonah (Sheri), Calvin, Jason, Gabriel (Monique), Kerina (Raymundo), Andrew, Josh (Alicia), Zachary, and Jordan; brother-in-law: Pat Chavez (Liz); step children: Jesse (Benita), Becky (Harold) and Tina (Anthony); step grandchildren; Dominic, Walter, Chantelle, Ashley, and Teyana.

Services will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pecos where a rosary will be recited at 10:00am. The funeral mass will be at 11:00am and the burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Serving as urn bearers will be her nephews. The family is asking that everyone continue to wear their mask during the church service. A special thank you to those who have sent condolences and kept the family in your prayers.
