Obituary of Thomas Leo (Tommy) Dearing

Thomas Leo (Tommy) Dearing, age 60 passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Rust Presbyterian Medical Center in Rio Ranch, NM and entered into his Home in Heaven to live eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after battling throat cancer. Tommy was born on July 26, 1961 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the third of five children of Leo and Cozette Dearing.

 

Tommy grew up in the North Valley of Albuqerque until he was seven years old when the family moved to Bosque Farms. He enjoyed playing baseball in his youth and was on the All Star Team for Yucca Little League for several years.

 

Tommy was born from a Rodeo Family. He was a competitive and talented athlete growing up participating in both rough stock and roping events in the New Mexico Junior Rodeo and New Mexico High School Rodeo Associations. He qualified for two National High School Finals Rodeos. He earned a college scholarship to New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs after graduating from Los Lunas High School in 1979. He went on to join the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association and competed for many years. Tommy enjoyed showing livestock in both 4-H and FFA. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf until rodeo injuries and illness sidelined him.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife Denice of Peralta, Son Jeremy Mallak and wife Hilarie, of Albuquerque, Son Jerett Mendendall and wife Amber of Deming, “adopted daughter” Jennifer Solano, and her children Devin, Cameron, Daimon Solano, and Izonica Martinez.

Tommy’s three Grandchildren; Hayden Mallak, Lane Mallak, and Kaisley Jo Mendenhall. Tommy is also survived by his four siblings; Brothers Bobby Dearing of Los Lunas, and Jimmy Dearing of Alto, Sisters Jamie Dearing of Warden, WA, and Amie Harris of Muleshoe, TX, as well as his Aunt Judy Luce of Stephenville, TX, Great Aunts Bonnie Merrick and Opal Jaco of Oklahoma City, OK, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Cozette Dearing. Paternal Grandparents Floyd Cheesey and Emily Dearing, and Maternal Grandparents Charles W. and Beulah Lee Hill.

 

Tommy had a beautiful, loving heart and will be missed immensely.

 

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Rust Presbyterian Medical Center for the care they gave him. Arrangements are being made through Riverside Funeral Home in Los Lunas, New Mexico.
