Obituary of Charlaine M. Hummel

On Monday June 20th 2022, Charlaine M. Hummel, mother of Robert, Opal, Florice, Lincoln, Charletta, Grandmother of 9, and Great Grandmother to many passed away at the age of 83.

Charlaine was born September 1st, 1938 in California and moved to Albuquerque, NM in the 1960s. While in the process of going back to school to get her GED she not only worked hard caring for her children, but also as a caregiver for the elderly. She then got her associates degree and became a mental health case manager, which she loved. After retiring, she was a treatment foster parent to many children and teens. She then transformed her house into a group home for mentally challenged adults.

Charlaine had a love for animals and cared for horses, cows, chickens, ducks, geese, goats, sheep, pigs and dogs. Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting, sewing, cooking, baking, and doing arts and crafts with her great grandchildren. She was always on the go and lived a very active life.

She attended church at Saint Lukes Missionary Baptist Church and loved her fellow members. As one of the elders of the church, she was very involved and enjoyed all the services, potlucks and gathering.

Charlaine was preceded in death by her father Charles Shepard, mother Eleanor L. Beale, daughter Charlaine Spain and her son John Hummel.
