Obituary of Vicki Sawders

Vicki Sawders 77

Former Bend and La Pine resident, Vicki Sawders, 77, died suddenly on July 25th, at her home in Los Lunas, New Mexico, with her husband, William, and her son, Jon, at her side.

Although she had very few early symptoms, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer shortly before her death.

Vicki Sawders was born November 18, 1944, in San Diego, California, to Victor R. and Jean C. Holeman.

Vicki graduated from Crawford High School in San Diego and later obtained her A.S Degree in dental assisting.

She and her family moved to Bend, Oregon, in 1875. Her husband, William, AKA “Bill Jay,” worked at KOGO radio in San Diego and took the job as Operations Manager at KBND in Bend. (He went on to other Bend radio stations to assume the position as Sales Manager.)

Vicki worked in the medical field for nearly thirty years, working for the Bend Memorial Clinic, and ending her career at In-Focus Eyecare, where she enjoyed working for Dr. Robert L. Lindgren, Dr. Ida Alul, and Dr. Patricia Buehler. She was very proud to have worked for such an  outstanding organization.

Living in Bend for 31 years, she and her husband retired in 2006 and moved to La Pine, Oregon. When her husband’s back went out (from shoveling snow,) the couple moved to sunny and warmer Los Lunas, New Mexico in 2017. There, she enjoyed a new way of life, and growing a rose garden.

Vicki’s husband is an avid Amateur Radio (ham) Operator. His callsign is K7ZM. Vicki also obtained her ham radio license with the callsign K7VK1.

On July 4th, Vicki and her husband celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Sawders is survived by her husband, William, her son, Jon. Two grand children and 3 great-grandchildren.

At her request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gladly accepted towards medical and family expenses.
