Obituary of Mela B. Gurule

Mela B. Gurule born April 14, 1932 ascended into Heaven peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones on September 10, 2022. She is preceded in death by her loving parents Teofilo Campos y Baca and Catalina Otero Campos y Baca; 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Her son Manuel Gurule, grandchildren Michael Gurule and Julie Metcalf-Gurule and great grandchildren Cephas Rodriguez and RayLyn Gonzales and her former husband of 45 years, Fermin Gurule. She is survived by her sister, Cathy Olguin and husband Ernest, and her loving children Fermin Guadalupe and Louise Gurule, Percilla Gurule, Michael Gurule, Rita Gurule and Felix Mora, Veronica Gurule and Donald Bobbin, Robert Gurule and Lori Watkins-Gurule, 16 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Mela was a loving daughter, sister, friend, aunt, wife, mother, and nana. With her love of learning she earned her High School Diploma in 1978 along with certificates and specialties. Her compassion for our veterans ran deep earning her a lifetime membership as a member of the DAV. Her love for life spilled over into cooking, fishing, camping, reading, dancing, going to church, practicing her faith, playing bingo and always providing for her children and grandchildren. She often spoke of her greatest blessings; her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her kind heart and warm spirit made her loved by all who met her. She requested that to honor her, purple be worn for her services. 

Pallbearers will be Marvin Gurule, Vanessa Torres, Emerald Ortega de Fuentes, Robert Gurule Jr., Angel Gurule, and Merissa Gurule. Honorary Pallbearers will be Monica Gurule and Christopher Gurule. 

Services will be held at San Felipe de Neri, 2005 N. Plaza Street NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87104 on September 20, 2022. Her viewing will be held at 9:00am, her Rosary at 9:30am and Mass at 10:00am. She will be placed to rest at Mount Calvary, 1900 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102 at 2:30pm.
