Obituary of Freda Golub Rosen
It is with sincere sadness that we announce the passing of Frea Rosen, 96, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and dear friend to many. Born in Boston, she was a dedicated daughter to her mother Fanny, and a cherished younger sister to her brothers Sam and Eli.
Frea graduated Boston University in 1946 at 20 years old, worked for Lever Brothers as the only woman employee at that time. During this period, she met her husband Albert, a Boston attorney. They had two sons, Marc and Jim. They lived in Brookline Mass, until Albert's unexpected passing in 1982. It was then that Frea began her many years of self-exploration: becoming a confident woman ahead of her time. She developed her yoga practice; worked as a sought-after consultant for entrepreneurs; and pursued meditative practices and studies.
In 1996, Frea moved to Santa Fe, where she found like-minded friends that further expanded her awareness and consciousness. It was here that she changed her name from Freda to Frea, because she felt so much freer to be her full self. Frea taught yoga at local retirement homes, worked at the Farmer's Market helping to sell herbal remedies; and sold New Age products, such as small Buddha statues to local gift shops. Frea also helped friends by editing their pre-published books, and hosted many gifted healers in her home.
Frea emanated a blend of compassion, inquisitiveness, and an appreciation for fun and creativity: qualities that nourished many close friendships. Frea spent hours and hours on the phone with friends from all over the country. She offered support and positive feedback, by not just listening, but truly hearing what each person shared. She did not communicate by text or email, so this personal connection will be missed by many. Frea is survived by her son Marc. She lost her son Jim in 2015. The family would like to thank Lucy and Angelica, her caregivers, who lovingly took care of Frea during her end days. And Compassus Hospice Group was tremendously supportive as well.
In Memory of Frea Rosen donations can be sent to American Cancer Society. Melanoma Research, PO Box 6704. Hagerstown, Maryland 21741
One last anecdote: at the moment of Frea's passing, there was a loud crash in the kitchen. It startled everyone gathered at her bedside. When investigated, the phone had fallen off the counter onto the floor. It was Frea's 'drop the mike' last phone call.
A Zoom service to honor Frea's memory will be announced shortly for all who wish to participate.
