Obituary of Charlotte Jean Levine

Charlotte Jean Nelson Levine, a long time Albuquerque resident passed away on the hospice unit at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital on October 26, 2022.

Charlotte was born July 25, 1942, in Tucumcari, NM, to her late parents JD & Margie Welty of Oroville, CA. She was a graduate of Oroville High School & travelled as military spouse with her children & late husband “Top” Nelson who proudly served in the United States Marines. Charlotte worked for Albany Travel in Georgia & moved back to New Mexico in 1982 where she opened Carefree Travel on San Pedro NE in Albuquerque. Her chosen field supplied opportunity for Charlotte to travel to countries around the globe. After selling the travel agency, she worked out the remainder of her career at AAA Travel on Coors. She was a member of ASTA & Kiwanis Club & worked Balloon Fiesta for years. Throughout her retirement, her “superpower”, sewing & quilting, became a favorite hobby. Charlotte is credited with making dozens of quilts for friends, family & loved ones alike. Members of San Gabriel the Archangel Episcopal in Corrales cherished the handmade parish banner she lovingly created. Charlotte actively participated in weekly socials & card games with friends & her “Girls Night Out” (GNO) & “Masterminds” groups. She was preceded in death by her parents & both husbands, Sherum R. Nelson & Leonard H. Levine. She is survived by her three children, son, Kevin Nelson (Albuquerque, NM), grandchildren, Emily Leary & Chris Slay (Port Orchard, WA) & son, Todd Nelson & wife Patti, grandsons, Allen & Matthew (Rio Rancho, NM), her daughter, Shawn Nelson Hall & husband & Joe, granddaughters, Rhonda & Ashley Anderson & husband & Alex, & great-grandson, Greyson (Albuquerque, NM). Charlotte also leaves behind her brother Wayne Welty & wife Drena (Albuquerque, NM).

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106 at 2:00 p.m. on November 11, 2022. A reception shall follow in the parish fellowship hall.
