Obituary of Leon Segura

 

Leon Alexander Segura passed away at his longtime family home in Santa Fe, NM on November 27, 2022 with his brother and caregiver Patrick Segura at his side.  He was born in Las Vegas, NM on April 7, 1953, to Jose Leon (Leo) and Carmen Segura.  Leon was raised in the Las Vegas and Ft. Union area where he attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School until the family moved to Santa Fe in 1969.  He graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1972 where he was an outstanding Cross Country and Track and Field athlete running in several State championships. He competed in many marathons and enjoyed being an extra in movies filmed in the Santa Fe area. Leon also attended Highlands University in Las Vegas and the El Rito Campus for Technical Trades school.

 

Leon is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Carmen, and his sisters Lorraine Segura Dunn and Janette Segura as well as his grandparents and several uncles and aunts.  He is survived by his siblings and their families, Matthew Segura and Nancy Herring, Patrick Segura, David Segura and Susan Duffy, Loretta Segura and Julia Asevedo, Julie Segura Cordova and her daughter Sofia Cordova. He is also survived by his uncles, aunts and many cousins

 

The family is grateful for the many prayers and support from extended family and friends in New Mexico and across several states.  They would like to thank The Spirit Club and the Guidance Center of Santa Fe, especially Luz Ovalle and Juan Valdez for many years of friendship and support. A special thanks to Sister Marie Bernadett and the Carmelite Sisters who have been praying for Leon’s soul and all the world.

 

There will be a Rosary Thursday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Funeral Home, Santa Fe New Mexico with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
