Obituary of Alfonso Enrique Cruz

Alfonso Enrique Cruz, 84 of Santa Fe, NM was born to Alfonso and Priscilla Cruz of Holman NM on December 14, 1938, in Terrero, NM. The beloved husband, father, grandfather, Uncle, and friend of many passed away peacefully on Thursday December 15, 2022, at his home. Alfonso is survived by his spouse of 63 years Bessie M. Cruz, one daughter and two sons, Elizabeth (Juan), Gilbert (Theresa) and Andrew (Tish), one sister, Lillian Martinez, 6 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Alfonso was preceded in death by his parents, Alfonso & Priscilla Cruz, brothers Phillip Cruz & Pasqual Martinez, and grandson Andrew (Pudge) Cruz.

Alfonso grew up on the family ranch in Holman, NM where he learned to work hard and enjoyed hunting and fishing on his spare time. He later became an Accountant for the State of NM, retiring in 1982. He stayed busy after retirement with construction projects, ranching, working as the Bill Room supervisor for many Legislative sessions, as well as early voting.

Alfonso always maintained a flourishing garden and shared his produce, fruit, and flowers with many. He loved the outdoors and would spend as much time in Holman as he could. Alfonso enjoyed people and made them feel included and welcome, he loved spending time with family. Alfonso enjoyed family reunions which allowed him to see his large extended family, which always put a smile on his face.

Alfonso was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Santa Fe, NM. Alfonso was a kind, loving man who will be missed by all. Final arrangements are pending but will be held in Santa Fe with graveside services to follow in Holman NM. 

Services will take place on Friday January 6th at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, located at 1301 Osage Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87505. The rosary will be prayed at 10:30AM, Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30AM. 

Graveside services will be on January 7th at 11:00AM at the Holman Cemetery (Morada de San Isidro).

Cremation is entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home in Santa Fe, NM
