Obituary of Stermon Wells

Stermon M “Buck” Wells, 72, of Santa Fe, NM passed on from this life on January 5, 2023. He battled the consequences of a stroke and resulting dementia for some years under the loving care of his wife, Nina.

He was born November 28, 1950 in Fort Worth, Texas. Buck was proceeded in death by his father Stermon Wells and mother Winnie Wells. He is survived by his wife, Nina Wells, his son Will Wells, his daughter Robyn Mead and grandson Ryan, brother, sister, cousins, sisters and brother in law, and nephews and nieces.

Buck served his country in the Marines (1969-1971) during the Vietnam War. Buck will always be remembered as a remarkable geologist, hydrologist and educator working 20 years with the New Mexico Office of State Engineer. He loved to hike and explore the Southwest US. He extensively researched historical events such as Coronado’s trail and the pre-history of the southwest. Later in life he turned to study his family’s genealogy. Buck Wells will be remembered fondly by his family and friends. He always told interesting stories.
