Nord Petersen

Obituary of Nord Petersen

Nord Petersen passed away on Jan. 11, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Helena van Heiningen of Santa Fe, his daughters, Victoria Neal of Santa Fe, NM, Karen Wood of New York, NY, his son Jon Wood of San Jose, CA and his sister Jo Moorman of Denver, CO.

Nord was born on Feb. 25, 1947 in St. Augustine, Florida to Nordgren Petersen and Carol (Haggerty) Petersen.  Raised in Boca Raton, FL, he attended Seacrest High School, Florida State University and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served with the Pacific Fleet Combat Camera Group as a combat photographer in Vietnam.  Upon his return to Florida, he worked for channel 12 in West Palm Beach as a news camera man followed by a long career working in the high performance, energy efficient glass industry as consultant to architects around the country.

During his time in Florida, he reconnected and married his high school sweetheart Helena van Heiningen.  After retirement, they subsequently moved to Santa Fe, NM where he was able to pursue his passion for art.  From childhood, Nord enjoyed creating works on paper and became a master with crow quill and ink.  Through the years his work was exhibited in various art shows around the country and acquired by private collectors.  Recently he was delighted to receive Honorable Mention in the Santa Fe Reporter.  Within the past year he had also created a web site nordpetersen.com, displaying some of his work.

Nord was known and loved by his friends and family for his wonderful sense of humor.  His wit was quick, his smile infectious, his heart open and giving.  He was a good man and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration off Nord's life will be held in Santa Fe at a date to be determined.
