Obituary of Weldon Harlie McKinney

Weldon Harlie McKinney Jr. joined his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, passing away peacefully at home with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer. Harlie was born April 16, 1952 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Weldon Sr. and Virginia McKinney who both preceded him in death. He was employed by CalMat, Vulcan Materials, and finally, Wagner Equipment prior to retiring.

Harlie was a warm, kind, gentle soul who was always ready to help anyone in need. He was calm, thoughtful, encouraging, and loved by everyone. Harlie enjoyed fishing and was an avid motorcyclist and bowling enthusiast. He looked forward to being with family and friends at parties and special events. Harlie loved listening and dancing to country western music and would often sing to his wife, Judy. They often attended their grandchildren's sporting events, dance competitions, piano recitals, and much more.

Harlie is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Judith McKinney; step children Eddie Vigil (Sheri), and Laurie Duvall (Edward); grandchildren Randy, Cody, Ryan, Emilie, and Ella; and several great grandchildren. Survived also by his children Gina, Tony, and Stacy; sister Roberta Leeds, and aunts Lois and Loretta. He will be dearly missed but we find comfort in knowing we will see him again in our eternal home.

His family would like to take this time to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jennifer Weitzel from Albuquerque Ambulance, Dr. Shiva Mukkamalla, his Oncologist, and all the staff at Presbyterian Rust Cancer Center. We would also like to thank all family, friends, and neighbors for their thoughts and prayers during the last four years.

A Mass will be held at 9:30 AM on April 4, 2023, at Risen Savior Catholic Church 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE. Reception to follow at 11:30 AM at the Fraternal Order of Police 4120 Cutler Ave NE.

A private burial at Gate of Heaven will take place at a later date.
