Obituary of BJ Winchester

In the early hours of Thursday, March 9, 2023, BJ Winchester, loving husband, father, and papa passed away at age 70.  He was an avid outdoors man always decked out in camo ready to fish, hunt or just enjoy sitting in the mountains. Growing up in Corona, NM he enjoyed the farm life, braking horses and riding bulls in his younger days.

Having a lifelong career in law enforcement as a Grants Police Officer, New Mexico State Police Mounted Patrol officer, Correctional Officer and Livestock inspector he made many friends along the way. He is remembered by his stories he would share to pass the time.

Being a Papa was one of his greatest attributes, he was loved and admired by all his grandchildren.  Spending time with them and Shirley, his loving wife of 49 years, was how he most enjoyed spending his time. That, and elk hunting with his son Mark.  He also looked forward to spending time at his daughter Monica’s home celebrating birthdays and holidays. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Joyce Winchester, Uncle Sonny Winchester, sisters Sherry Lynn Carter-Winchester and Karen Mcdaniels, and son Jerry Don Winchester.  BJ is survived by his wife Shirley, brothers Dickie(Denise) and Patrick, children Mark(Christina) and Monica(Kevin), and grandchildren Justin Blake Winchester, Amber Nelms, Xaundra, Zabrinia, Jerry, Laney and Henry.  All will miss him dearly.

Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 20th, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Peralta Methodist Church 25 Wesley Rd, Peralta NM.
