Obituary of Olin Carlton Gramling II
Olin Carlton Gramling II of Albuquerque, New Mexico; died on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Olin was born in Norway and was a refugee of World War II at age 5 to the United States, with his parents and brothers. Olin spent his childhood in Minnesota and Florida. In 1979, Olin enlisted in the United States Army, graduating from Fort Benning, GA. During his time while in service to our nation, Olin was a Unit Armorer, Infantryman and Reconnaissance Scout. Following Olin’s time in service, he enjoyed his jobs as a Truck Driver, Security Guard and Veteran Mentor. Olin was joyously married to his wife Karen (Kennedy) Gramling for 32 years.
Olin enjoyed the company of friends and fellow veteran comrades. The last years of his life were spent in the company of his dear friends Tamara and Juan, people-watching and playing with cherished four-legged friends. He never met a stranger and always lent a smile, helping hand or kind words of advice. Olin was committed to the service of his comrades and was in great gratitude for Paws and Stripes of Albuquerque, NM. It is at Paws and Stripes where he met his devoted, loyal and cherished love “Buddy” his service dog. At Paws and Stripes Olin formed bonds with the staff and other veterans referring to them as his “family” and the location his “home”. Olin served as a personal hero to the younger veterans of the Paws and Stripes family and he extended his love for veterans and dogs through service as a Mentor. Olin’s smile, beautiful eyes, kindness and love will be sorely missed. His service to this nation will forever endure through the countless other veterans lives he forever positively touched. God Bless you Olin - God Speed Brother!!
Olin is survived by his faithful service dog Buddy, newfound Paws and Stripes family, friends Juan and Tamara and the countless number of veteran and active service members he called his brothers and sisters.
