Obituary of Mary Jane Penn

Mary Jane Penn, age 92, passed away peacefully at University of New Mexico Hospital, in Albuquerque, NM, on April 10, 2023, after a brief hospitalization due to a fall in her home.

Mary Jane (MJ) was born May 14, 1930, in New Berlin, Pennsylvania.   She received her education degree from the University of NM and worked as a High School English teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools until her retirement in 1991.  MJ was a singer, pianist, lover of classical music and great literature.  She was also an avid walker who loved the outdoors and enjoyed the Albuquerque open space.  She loved to travel and was fortunate enough to see much of the world in her younger days.  Most of all, MJ was a loving mother to her children who will miss her dearly.

MJ is survived by her sons David Penn of Ruidoso, NM; Michael Penn, and Joel Penn, both of Albuquerque, NM; her daughter Lisa (Patrick) Driscoll of Colorado Springs, CO; her granddaughters, Lauren (Paul) Ludovicy and Lindsay Penn; and her great granddaughter, Judee Corvina.  She was preceded in death by her parents David and Estella (Miller) Solomon and her sister Shirley McPhillips.

Services will be held at St. Chad’s Episcopal Church, 7171 Tennyson St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122, on Thursday, May 11th, 2023 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Chad’s or to the music charity of your choice would be appreciated.
