Orlando was a man of courage and strong will. A hard working man, he pursued all his goals and
ambitions with unwavering determination and brought to life a beautiful family. From the coasts of
California to the mountain peaks of Northern New Mexico and everywhere in between, Orlando was
a pilar of knowledge and wisdom, and his words will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him
for many years to come. Orlando was a hero to many. He served as a wild land firefighter with the U.S.
Forest Service from October 24th, 1964 until his retirement on March 3rd, 1996. He continued to
work in conservation until his final retirement in 2014. His passion for conservation and the protection
of the forests he called home inspired countless others to answer the call of the wild just as he did.
Orlando was a mentor, a leader, an avid outdoorsman, but most importantly he was a great
grandfather, grandfather, a father, an uncle, a brother and a friend. His memory will be rooted in
our hearts the same way an Aspen is rooted onto the side of a mountain. A silent reminder of thebeautiful world we live in, and the beautiful world he left us.
