Obituary of Patricia Gadban

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Patricia Gadban, 82, of Albuquerque, who left us on May 6, 2023 at Lovelace Westside Hospital.

Pat was born August 13, 1940 in New York City.  Parents Joseph and Antoinette Yodzio raised her in Valley Stream, NY, alongside her sister Kathleen.  A natural scholar, she went on to receive a B.A. from Hofstra University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University.

She lived some time in England where she and then-husband Tim Gadban gave birth to her only daughter, Sarah Jane.  Through her life she also lived in Staten Island, NY, and Monterey County, CA, before settling in Albuquerque.

Pat was a talented academic and educator with an accomplished career as a professor, editor, writer and sociologist at academic institutions in California, New York, Massachusetts, and Quebec.  She also worked in social policy with the Food Bank for Monterey County.  She was active with the theatrical and visual arts and even performed as a clown in New York’s Central Park in her 20s.  Besides her intellect, she was known for her sense of humor and spirited personality.

Pat dedicated her golden years to raising her grandson Saren, and she did so with tremendous strength and dedication.  He was her greatest joy, deepest pride and constant companion.  She selflessly, admirably and bravely committed herself to his well-being and happiness until her last day.

Pat leaves behind grandson Saren, cousin Barbara Wendorff of Placitas, nephew Christopher, niece Emily with husband James and grand-nieces Opal and Penelope, and former husband Tim.  She was predeceased by her parents, daughter Sarah Jane and sister Kathleen.

A memorial gathering will be held on May 24, 3-5 pm, at Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo Blvd NE, Albuquerque.  All are welcome.
