Obituary of Robert L. Montano

Robert "Bob" Montano was born in Oakland, CA to Josephine "Josie" and Robert Montano Sr. Growing up in a large family that included 6 brothers and sisters he joined the Navy in 1961 and served his country by keeping his fellow sailors fed and ready to protect.

His love for baking continued through out his life as he married and had 3 daughters Janice Marie, Judy Lynn and Joyce Kay which is when he started the still iconic Albuquerque institution known as ABC Cake Shop. Opened in 1972 he helped make sweet memories for literally generations of Albuquerque families. His "from scratch" mentality and work ethic made lasting impressions and provided a family run business that included his daughters as well as grand kids until his retirement in 2007.

His love for baking was only surpassed by his love for fishing. An avid fly fisherman if he wasn't working you would find him in the many rivers of Northern New Mexico & Colorado.

His passion for sweet confections and tall tales of the one that got away will be remembered lovingly by his surviving family members that include his 3 daughters as well as numerous grand children, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his mother Josie Montano, his father Robert Montano Sr., and his grandson Nicholas Phillips.
