Edward Graeber

Obituary of Edward John Graeber

Edward, Ed, Eddie

Our beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather (“Papa”) great-grandfather and friend, Edward John Graeber passed away on June 10, 2023, at home surrounded by family.

A creative, thoughtful, kind and quiet man, Ed had an insatiable curiosity about life.  Ed’s razor-sharp mind, technical expertise and skilled hands were truly unique and remarkable.  He was an accomplished jeweler, silversmith, painter, master mechanic, rock hound, pyrotechnic extraordinaire and a fabulous fisherman.  Eddie enjoyed tai chi, crossword puzzles and the daily cryptoquip.  In recent years, he and Alice frequented local breakfast joints, brewpubs and enjoyed the occasional afternoon at the casinos.  Most evenings, he and Alice played progressive rummy, topping 3400 games.  He painstakingly maintained their swimming pool for Alice and children, grand and great.

Ed was born in Denver, Colorado on May 14, 1934 to Margaret and Edward Graeber.  He graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 1956 and the following day he married Alice, the love of his life.  Ed served in the Army Corps of Engineers and in 1970 received his PhD from the University of New Mexico. He enjoyed a 40-year career as a distinguished scientist at Sandia National Laboratories.  Alice and Eddie celebrated their 67th anniversary on May 26, 2023.

Ed cherished his family of whom he was most proud. Preceding him in death are granddaughter Courtney Raquel Harlan and sister, Ann Marie Mallon. Ed is survived by his wife Alice and children: daughter Eileen [(Dave) Marsh, and daughters, Brittany (Chris) Schreurs and daughters Lily and Natalie, Kelsey (Joey) Hatzipanagiotis and son, Ace, Taylor (Billy) Thomas and sons, Micah and Tobin], daughter Elaine [(John) Harlan and children, Morgan (Thomas) De Pree and sons, Ezra and René, and Trevor (Miguel)], son Doug [(Sally) Graeber and daughters Alyssa (Jared) Sample and daughters, Caitie and Chloe, Kara (Josh) Pyland, and children Emma and Jude], and son David [(Havi) Graeber and children Mariel (Ben) Willow and children, Isla and Wyatt, Jaron (Kari) Graeber, and Maya Graeber].  He is also survived by a large and close extended family.

Ed leaves behind a wealth of memories, hidden treasures and lots of love. We will miss him!
