Obituary of Eugene Thomas Garcia
Eugene Thomas Garcia
1952-2023
July 14, 2023, Eugene Garcia went home to be with his maker. Eugene was super knowledgeable, caring, outgoing, and full of life. He would have turned 71 years old this year.
Eugene was born August 18th, 1952, in Norfolk Virginia. Because his father was in the navy, Eugene was blessed to spend 3 years of his childhood in Guam, where he had many adventures. His father Evualdo, his mother Rose, and his two sisters, ended up retiring in Las Cruces New Mexico where he graduated from Las Cruces High.
Eugene was hired at Quest starting off as an operator in the switching office where he was often hung up on due to being one of two male operators. He enjoyed competing with other operators to see who would get the most calls. He moved on to marketing as a manager, sales which he loved because he wanted his customers to be educated, training new employees on etiquette and equipment, he went into installation and repair of phone lines, after that, on to the construction department where he placed the telephone pole lines in the ground from the city out into the desert and finally he went into fiber optics, where he retired after 30 years.
Eugene met Glenda at Believer’s Center of Albuquerque in 2000. They sang in choir together but didn’t know each other until they met in a singles group there at B.C.A. Nine months later they were married. Eugene and Glenda spent 22 full years together. They enjoyed wonderful mission trips first to Romania/Austria, then to Mexico and Israel where he gained many friendships. Eugene wanted to share his experience of Israel with everyone and hoped to one day live there.
Some hobbies of Eugene while growing up included track, judo and karate which he was in for 15 years. But during all that he enjoyed gliding, flying, hunting and then lessons on being a pilot. Eugene was passionate about the outdoors, good food and wine, fellowship, children and being with family. He was full of joy and humor and loved making people laugh. He had a wonderful smile and cared deeply for others. Eugene accepted the Lord in his late twenties which changed his life. This relationship continued to grow and Eugene referred to God as his friend.
Eugene will be greatly missed by his loving wife Glenda, his children; Tessa, Aaron, and Amber, as well as his son-in-law Daniel, grandchildren; Amnity, Aden, Lilja, Liam and Lacie, brothers, and sister-in-law; Joe, Cathy and David, sisters; Erlinda and Stephanie.
Eugene was preceded by his parents Evualdo and Rose Garcia.
We will be celebrating the life of Eugene Garcia on Sunday July 30th at 2:00 at the congregation Adat Yeshua located at 529 Jefferson St. NE Albuquerque New Mexico 87108.
