Obituary of Artur Wozniak
Artur Wozniak
June 24, 2002 – July 20, 2023
With deepest sorrow, we announce that Artur, our beloved son and brother, passed suddenly on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the age of 21. He was a brilliant person with many talents, always striving for greatness and searching for meaning.
Artur was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on June 24, 2002. Growing up in Santa Fe, he attended Carlos Gilbert Elementary School, Mandela International Magnet School and Santa Fe High School.
Artur's physical ability and gracefulness emerged quickly in early childhood when he participated in dance, theater and taekwondo. But nothing excited him more than rollerblading. He never needed any instruction, and yet, there was no match for Artur at the Rocking Rollers arena in Santa Fe, where he spent many Friday evenings for over ten years starting at the age of five.
When in middle school, Artur established a chess club with a few of his friends and support from teachers. The team represented MIMS at numerous chess tournaments, sharing their passion for chess and winning a trophy from time to time. Artur was also active at the hacking club while pursuing his interest in computer software and hardware.
Artur loved animals and always had a special connection with cats. He and his sister both grew up in the company of their beloved cats. In the summer, Artur would often visit his family in Poland. He also frequently traveled with the family around the world, or across the country, enjoying family road trips and camping outdoors, which brought us so many fun memories.
He aced his PSAT and SAT exams, and chose to attend New Mexico Tech in Socorro. He loved math and appreciated its beauty. After graduating from Santa Fe High School in 2020, Artur was admitted to the Department of Mathematics at NMT. He was scheduled to return to New Mexico Tech in the late summer of 2023, but this was not to be.
Artur's struggles with mental health took so much away from him and often disrupted his plans. We will always remember his determination to fight these challenges, varied interests, big plans for the future and love. Above all, we will remember and celebrate his independent thinking, sense of humor, and free spirit.
Artur is survived by parents, Agnes and Przemek Wozniak, younger sister Julia; grandparents, Teresa and Mieczyslaw Szuber and grandmother Barbara Wozniak; aunt and uncle Gosia and Steve Uttrodt; aunt and uncle, Dominika and Lukasz Komor; and cousins: Emilia, Alex, Mikolaj, and Ignacy.
Services for Artur will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe at 12 noon with burial to follow at the Rosario Cemetery.
“Not a day goes by that I don’t look at your picture and smile.
Or cry.
Or both.”
-Dean Jackson
