Obituary of Leroy Paz

Leroy “Beetle” Paz, 59, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away unexpectedly on August 18th, 2023.

Leroy was born to Sheryl and Levino Paz on September 29, 1963. He was raised in Carnuel, NM and attended Manzano High School. Leroy & Naomi married on December 19th, 1980. Together they share a son, Armando “Andy” Steven Paz, and daughter, Ashley Nicole Garcia.

He is survived by his mother Sheryl Paz; son and wife Andy and Erika Paz; his daughter and husband Ashley and Alex Garcia; grandchildren Isabella, Sabrina and Christian Paz; Elijah and Elizabeth Garcia; his sisters Beverly, Evelyn, Joann, Marylou, and Rosetta; brother Jojo; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Leroy is preceded in death by his father, Levino Paz; brother-in-law Arthur Saiz; brother-in-law Freeman Gallien; cousin Vernie Paz and nephew Jermaine Gallien.

Leroy was employed at the early age of 16 as the lead maintenance man at the Shalako Inn. At the age of 20, Leroy changed employment and started working at Kirtland Air Force Base where he managed a service station. From 1982 through 2015 he was employed with Robert’s Oil for a total of 33 years. He started his career at Robert’s Oil as a cashier and worked himself up to the Vice President of the company.

Leroy enjoyed building and repairing motors and transmissions. He loved teaching anyone who wanted to learn and loved helping anyone who needed it. He loved the great outdoors where he was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed hunting deer and antelope with his dad. Leroy was very active and interested in Andy and Ashley’s sports. He never missed a football game, a wrestling meet or tournaments for Andy and he always attended Ashley’s dance performances.

Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday September 14th, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Church at 4001 Osuna RD NE. 

Reception will follow immediately after the service in the Calvary hub.
