John Baros

Obituary of John Rey Baros

It is with great sorrow that we announce that John received his heavenly wings on Saturday, August 26, 2023. John passed surrounded by the family he loved so much. He was welcomed into heaven, by his wife Lottie and twin sons Danny and Mike. John will always be remembered by his beautiful smile and his ability to love and take care of his family. John was the patriarch of his family and led them to many successes in life.

John was born in Corona, NM on October 20,1933 in the home of Valentin Baros and Timotea Selgado. John was the youngest boy of the ten siblings. The family has always called him Johnny. John went to school in Corona and played football and basketball. Upon graduation in 1952 he volunteered to the US Navy and served for three years. When he was not at sea he was stationed in Hawaii. This was a time in his life that he enjoyed his freedom and making new friends.

Upon his discharge from the navy he returned home, but moved to Albuquerque to live with his sister Betty. Following several jobs, delivering telegrams, installing carpet, delivering furniture he finally went to work for the United States Postal Service. He married Lottie Padilla in September of 1959, taking in her son Tony as his very own. Following their marriage, they purchased the home he still lived in at the time of his death.

Being the youngest of a large family, John was always very supportive of all of his siblings, visiting them and ensuring everyone was alright, not an easy task, but John was never one to complain. In his younger years John was an excellent dancer and loved to go to dances on the weekend, He and Lottie could cut a rug. They both were excellent dancers, however once their sons were born, he gave up dancing and his attention turned to the upbringing of his family and assisting them in sports.

John's biggest shock came when his twins were born not knowing that Lottie was pregnant with twins, and two years following he had another son. The three young boys and Tony kept his hands full. However he spent his free time coaching little league baseball which he continued to do for his grandchildren. John was the type of father and grandfather who would do anything for his hitos.

John had so much love for his family he ensured he was successful in organizing family reunions for several years. This was his greatest joy because he was able to see his siblings and their families, as well as they were able to see his own.

John retired from the post office in 1989 but could not get used to being home, and went to work for the City of Albuquerque transporting Seniors. His second retirement was in 1998.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Lottie Padilla and his twin sons Mike and Danny, John left this earth with a broken heart at the passing of his sons. However, his sorrow and grief and his broken heart have now been repaired by Our Heavenly Father. We can only imagine the joy of his reunion with his sons. He was also preceded in death by his parents Valentin and Timotea, his nine siblings, Procopio, Elvira, Ceceila, Tobias, Faustino, Rosie, leta, Eva and Betty.

John is survived by his sons Allen Baros (Marilu), Anthony (Tony) Orosco(Dolores). His daughter-in-law Gloria Baros. His grandchildren Carolyn Sandoval (Anthony), Jason Orosco(Charly), Eva Dodson (Domenic), James Baros (Sarah), Adam Baros, Allen Jr. Baros, Jeffrey Baros, Angela Chavez (Aaron), Azael Baros, Ariadne Baros. His great-grandchildren, Samantha Sandoval, Sileah Sandoval, Sydney Sandoval, Simone Sandoval, Aurora Orosco, Elloria Orosco, Cheyenne Dodson, Steven Baros, Zechariah Dodson, Elliana Dodson, Elena Dodson, Santiago Baros, and Rhea Baros.

John's services will be on Thursday, August 31, 2023. The viewing will be held at 8:30am, followed by the rosary at 9:00am and mass at 9:30. John will be laid to rest with his son Danny at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A celebration of John’s life will be held after the burial in the Sacred Heart Church hall, which can be found behind the church.
