Denise O'Brien

Obituary of Denise Jane O'Brien

Denise Jane O’Brien died in her home September 5, 2023.

Denise and her identical twin sister Debra Jean were born January 8, 1952, in Truth or Consequences, NM to Samuel and Charlotte May Bradley.

Denise and Debra attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Highland High School (1970) in Albuquerque. The twins graduated from Midland Lutheran College (1974) in Fremont, NE.

After college, Denise started her career working with developmentally disabled children.

Denise was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 11. She spent the next 60 years living with the trials and tribulations that go along with the disease. Her strong faith helped her deal with the many difficult medical situations.

Denise wanted to share her experiences and offer help to other diabetics by writing the book “The Ups and Downs of Diabetes”. She taught a class for diabetics and their families through the University of New Mexico Continuing Education Program.

Denise is survived by her husband Stephen O’Brien; sisters Debra Jean Pedersen, Elizabeth Marie Rooney and April Clark; and brother Samuel Bradley.

Denise adored each of her nieces, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Thank you to the fabulous staff of Lily Care Hospice. It was a true blessing for Denise and her family to be together at home during these times.
