Obituary of Betty Jeannette Burton Koester
Betty Jeannette Burton Koester, born July 15, 1940, in Albuquerque, NM, passed away on October 5, 2023, in Albuquerque, NM.
Betty had one sister, Margaret Ann Burton Hall; three sons, Brian Thomas Koester, Brett James Koester, and Bennett George Koester; and two grandchildren, Sierra Brook Koester, and Asylee Hope Koester.
Betty went to Bandelier and Whittier Elementary Schools, and Wilson Middle School. She graduated from Highland High School. She received her BS in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia ,and received a MA in a Reading Specialist Degree from the University of New Mexico.
She was in Jobs Daughters and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was an elementary teacher and a Title 1 reading teacher for 20 years. She tutored and also substituted. She loved teaching and working with young children.
She was a devoted and loving wife and mother and grandmother. Her family meant more to her than anything else. She loved helping with all her sons’ activities; and was a Den mother in Cub Scouts; a room mother in all her sons elementary school classes; and team mother for all her son’s baseball and basketball teams. She loved going to all her sons’ games. She and her family would go on family vacations every year. She belonged to the Methodist Church and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School many years. She was very close to her friends and relatives. She was always willing to help anyone at any time and go beyond her work to do more than was expected and volunteer to do more.
She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents whom she loved and missed.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo Blvd. NE Albuquerque, starting at 10:00AM.
Burial to follow at Vista Verde Cemetery in Rio Rancho.
