Obituary of Betty Valdez

Betty Valdez, age 83, born and raised in Lyden, NM, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2023, following a lengthy illness.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Bernabe and Olivama Valdez; brothers, Ben and Joe A. Valdez; sisters, Mela Montoya, Eutimia Archuleta, Marie Lujan and Angie Corlis.

Betty never married and devoted most of her life to caring for her mother in the family home after the passing of her father. She enjoyed canning and preserving jelly from the fruit that was harvested from the family orchard. In her quiet time, she loved doing cross stitch embroidery and watching her favorite programs on TV. She was always happy when her siblings, nieces, nephews, family and friends would come to visit.

Betty is survived by her sister, Susie Salazar; brothers, Herman Valdez (Loretta), Eluid Valdez (Irene), Horace Valdez (Dora), Phillip Valdez (Joanna), and many other loving nieces, nephews and extended family. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.

The family would like to thank Santa Fe Care Center staff for their continued and loving support for Betty during the past 5 years and adding to her quality of life, as well as Ambercare Hospice staff for their continued support for the past 3 months.

A rosary will take place on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., followed by mass and interment, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and cemetery in Velarde, New Mexico.
