Obituary of Lillie Valdez
Celia “Lillie” Valdez, born July 28, 1932, was called to her heavenly home on November 8, 2023, at the age of 91. She is preceded in death by her father, Enriquez Valdez, mother, Bernardita Valdez, brothers Juan, Alberto (Felicita), Antonio (Gavina), Ismael (Regina) Valdez, sister Elsira (Adan) Apodaca and nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her brothers Feliciano, and Ramon (Eutimia) Valdez, and her sister Agnes (Ruben) Esparza. Celia will be lovingly cherished by her siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews.
Celia was born and raised in Cuba, NM. At the age of 3 she suffered a terrible fever that left her deaf but that did not stop her she learned to read lips and even went to the school for the deaf in Santa Fe for a while. She lived with and cared for her mother until her passing then continued to live on her own but always close to her family.
She loved her family dearly and enjoyed having visitors to talk and joke with. She also loved going on Sunday drives with family, working on crafts like crochet, ceramics, sewing, and needlepoint. On sunny days you could always find her outside doing yard work or fixing something.
A celebration of her life will take place Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in Cuba, New Mexico. The viewing will begin at 9:30 am, a rosary recited at 10:00 am, and a funeral mass at 11:00 am, all at Immaculate Conception Church. She will be laid to rest next to her father at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. There will be a reception at the parish hall following the services.
