Lucy M. Griego Obituary
We are saddened to announce the passing of our Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother: Lucy M. Griego. She passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the age of 84. She was born on May 11, 1939, to Pablo and Juanita Martinez in the Juan Tomas, NM area (Manzano East Mtns), 30 miles east of Albuquerque, NM.
Lucy is preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Juanita Martinez, her sister Delia Trujillo, and 3 brothers: Freddy, Johnny, and Willie.
She married the Love of her Life, Estolano (Tony) Griego on April 26, 1958, with which she shared 64 years of marriage. They were the true meaning of everlasting love! They knew each other since grade school in Juan Tomas, NM where they all attended a one room - all age schoolhouse.
Lucy & Estolano lived together in the Martineztown neighborhood in Albuquerque for 47 years. They then moved to Los Lunas, NM where they lived together for an additional 17 yrs. They kept very busy together running the family Carquest auto parts store in Los Lunas with family members and simultaneously maintaining a herd of 45-50 cattle on his boyhood mountain ranch. Each new calf was almost like a new grandchild, who they enjoyed naming after birth.
During Lucy and Estolano’s lifetime together, they traveled to Berlin, Munich, Prague, Venice, Paris, London, New York City, Vancouver, Canada, Hawaii and numerous other adventures. While in Mazatlán, Mexico, Lucy was one of the few that did not get seasick on a fishing expedition and was able to reel in a very large swordfish which still hangs in their Carquest-All Motor Parts & Supply Store in Los Lunas, NM. They also celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Niagara Falls, NY in 2008.
Lucy is survived by her 3 children; Clyde (Sandra) Griego of Tome, NM; Dorothy (Fred) Jensen of Ft. Worth, TX; and Joe (Mona) Griego of Albuquerque, NM. She was fortunate to have 6 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter whom she loved very much. Grandchildren; Robert Griego and Demi (Alex) Flores, Ryan and Cameron Jensen, and Kayla and Julia Griego; Great-Grandchild; Lucia Griego of Santa Fe, NM.
Lucy is also survived by her 2 brothers, Robert Martinez (93 yrs old) and Paul (Polo) Martinez (88 yrs old), both of Albuquerque, NM, and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucy was a Beautiful person inside and out. She was the sweetest and kindest person you could ever meet. She never knew a stranger. People she just met talked to her as if they had known her for a long time. We would ask her “Mom, who was that?” She would respond “I don’t know, I just met them.”
Pallbearers: Cameron Jensen, Fred Jensen, Anthony Acosta, Johnny Acosta, Matthew Sanchez, & Anthony Trujillo
