Obituary of August Salvatore Cammarota

August (Augie) Salvatore Cammarota passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013 at the age of 86 years young. He was born in Brooklyn, New York and was a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico. Augie served in the Navy during WWII and spent many years traveling the world as an airplane electrician contractor. He was living in Iran during the Islamic revolution in the 1970s. Augie was a very easy going and mellow man who never got too excited over anything. He loved his family and friends. Besides his family, one of the greatest joys in his life was making intricate models of sailing ships and airplanes. Some of which he converted into nightlights for all of his grandsons. Augie is survived by his sons August (Butch) Cammarota, his wife Sue of California, James Cammarota, his wife Debbie of Washington State; his daughters, Dianne Spence and Gina Cammarota of New Mexico; his brothers Phillip Cammarota, his wife Mary, Fernando (Nandy) Salvador, his wife Madeline, his grandchildren, Christy Barry and her husband Thomas, James Cammarota, Jessica Cammarota, Jesse Hanawalt, Justin Hanawalt, his great grandchildren Sean and Nathan Barry, Kyren and Jailynn Cammarota. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The nation is diminished by the loss of another member of the greatest American generation and he will be greatly missed by all. Augie will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to the Animal Humane Society of New Mexico at animalhumanenm.org.
