Obituary of Luke K Cooperrider

Luke K. Cooperrider passed away on Dec. 25, 2013 in Albuquerque. Born in rural Ohio, Coop was recruited by Harvard with a full scholarship and graduated in 1940. He served in the Signal Corps in WWII, and while stationed in Hawaii, met the love of his life, Virginia Harle. Married after the war, he graduated from University of Michigan Law School, worked in law firm Squire, Sanders and Dempsey in Cleveland, and then was wooed back to U of M where he taught law for 30+ years and made lifelong friendships. After retiring in 1983 Coop and Ginny moved from Ann Arbor to Sun City West, AZ, made many new friends, and travelled the world. Ginny passed away in 2007, and Coop moved to Albuquerque. Coop's steadfast sense of ethics and justice remained throughout life and his kindness made him a favorite of many of his students. He is survived by his dear sisters Patricia Leet and Barbara Dorn and their families; son Dr. Peter Cooperrider with wife Nicole and family; son Mark Cooperrider; daughter Carol Cooperrider and husband Greg Tucker; granddaughter Kim Arthur with husband Albert and new great-granddaughters Lola and Emilia; and Ginny s twin sister Betty Genzoli and family. We celebrate his long, full, and happy life, and the contributions he made while he was here. In lieu of flowers, please enjoy your memories of him as we do. Special thanks for the amazing care from Hospice of the Sandias - Elizabeth, Maureen, Mayra, Walik and others, and David and Jeff. Arrangements entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo NE, (505)764-9663.
