Obituary of Franklin H. Fenton

Franklin H. Fenton, Albuquerque, New Mexico, age 90, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013. He was born to the late Doris H and Frederick C. Fenton, in Ames, Iowa. Frank grew up in Manhattan, KS, served in World War II as a navigator for the Army Air Corps/Air Force in the Pacific field of operations and received a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Kansas State University. He worked for many years for the du Pont Company as an engineer and executive in six states. Each time he was transferred to a new state, he and his wife Lucy would create a beautiful home by decorating, gardening and adding other distinctive touches. One of his greatest joys was building the family cabin near Estes Park, CO, with his father and many friends and relatives. His favorite hobbies were golf and jewelry-making. The women in his life have many beautiful pieces of silver jewelry set with stones he gathered on trips and cut himself. His children have many great memories of spending family vacations at the cabin, camping in parks throughout the western US and visiting interesting places. He was preceded in death by his son Craig; by his sister Ruth Bascom of Eugene, OR; by his wife of fifty-one years, Lucille McCandless Fenton and by his wife of twelve years, Glenna Fenton. Mr. Fenton is survived by his three children: Claire Fenton of Albuquerque, Kathleen Fenton of Lakewood, CO and Robert Fenton and wife Sheri of Cave Berry Farm, TN; his four grandchildren: Andrew Szabados of Lakewood, CO, Steven Szabados of San Francisco, CA, Holly Fenton of Athens, GA and Kathryn Fenton of Cave Berry Farm, TN; and his sister, Jane Fenton of Denver, CO. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Jaxson. He is remembered as a supportive, generous and loving father, as well as a charming host, always ready with a well-grilled steak and a strong cocktail. He will be interred in Golden, CO, next to Lucy in a private family memorial service. Arrangements entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque, 225 San Mateo NE, (505) 764-9663.
