Obituary of Larry Harjo

Larry Harjo was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on March 26, 1962. He was raised by his Grandmother, and touched by her Baptist values. . On Winter Solstice, December 22, 2011, Larry, age 49, succumbed to complications of pneumonia. That night it snowed, as the Gates of Heaven opened to welcome Larry. Enchanted by desert sunsets, Larry became a resident of New Mexico in the early 1980's. He attended T-VI and worked as a Nurse Assistant. He provided care for patients of all ages and walks of life within Albuquerque, tirelessly holding their hand, and on numerous occasions sharing heartfelt words of comfort during their passage. Larry was a proponent of extending services for the homeless, his compassion for the oppressed rendering his appearance larger than his 5'8" 180-pound physique. Larry was a loving Father to his daughter, Ashley, he helped with her birth, and was the first to receive and hold her. He chose Ashley Rosemary's name, pampered her ceaselessly, and taught her his sense of humor. Larry liked animals and had a contagious sense of humor, making friends wherever he traveled. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Beloved Husband and Father, Larry is survived by his former wife of 18 and a half years, Juanita Nia Harjo of Picuris Pueblo in Albuquerque; daughters Ashley Rosemary Harjo of Picuris Pueblo in Albuquerque, and Lindsey Sanchez of San Felipe Pueblo; former in-laws of Albuquerque; and extended relatives of Oklahoma. We celebrate Larry's next journey. Arrangements entrusted to Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque, 225 San Mateo NE, 764-9663.
