Obituary of Robert Keith Hill

Robert Keith Hill was born to Robert Doran and Freeda J. Hill in Coffeyville, Kansas January 18, 1933. He moved to Trinidad, Colorado and then Albuquerque, NM where he attended Albuquerque High School. Robert enlisted in the Navy when he was 17 years old and trained as a medical corpsman in San Diego, CA and Bethesda, Maryland and was then stationed on the USS Antietam. He traveled to Cuba, the Philippines and Portsmouth, England. In 1953, he was honorably discharged. After he got out, he married Carol M. Hall November 12, 1954. Together they had four children, Richard Hill, Kathleen Hill (Johnston), Karen Hill (Barich) and, Ronald Hill. From 1960-1980 he worked as a businessman and a hospital administrator in Borger and Monahans, Texas. In 1980 Robert moved back to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he worked at Hills Turquoise and Lovelace Memorial Hospital until his retirement at the age of 67. Robert loved his family deeply. He was often the central point of contact for all the various branches and was the reason we all felt connected. Robert had many hobbies including reading and fishing. He loved baseball and coached both his sons in youth baseball. Robert never missed a sporting event any of his kids played in. He supported the UNM Lobos basketball program and regularly attended their games. Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Carol Hall Hill; and his brother, Kenneth Leo Hill. He is survived by his brothers, Hubert Hershel Hill of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Harry Raymond Hill of Keller, Texas; his children, Richard Hill and wife Cheri Hill, of Midland, Texas, Kathleen Johnston and husband Layne Johnston, residents of Midland, Texas, Karen Barich and husband Rick Barich, residents of Denver, Colorado, Ronald Hill and wife Camille Garcia-Hill, residents of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. Robert was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project would be greatly appreciated. Services will be held at Riverside Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 23, 2014. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:00 noon with Funeral Service to be celebrated at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family welcomes everyone back to the house after the service for fellowship.
