Obituary of Tommy E. Otero

Tommy E. Otero, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 23, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 31, 1925 to Tomas Otero and Bartola Chavez Otero in Los Lunas. Our loss has been Heaven's gain. Tommy is now celebrating his eternal life in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ and those loved ones who preceded him in death. They are: his wife of 41 years, Sylvia, his parents Tomas and Bartola Otero, his brothers Oscar Otero, Ernest Trujillo, Lito Otero, and Kenneth Otero. Tommy was a WW2 War veteran who proudly served his country on the Battleship USS Tennessee. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He also loved sports and for several years he officiated baseball, basketball, and football in the Jr. High, High School, and College level. He coached baseball little league and actively played baseball until illness prevented him from doing so. He also was the boxing champion of his naval fleet and went on to have three professional boxing matches. Tommy retired from the City of Albuquerque where he was employed as a Commercial Water meter Reader for the Customer Service Dept. Those left behind in anticipation of seeing him again are: his wife of 24 years, Jeanette; his sons Tommy Otero Jr., (Georgia); Phillip Otero (Kathy); Stepson, Michael Dwayne Barrett (Christina); Stepdaughter, Angela Davis (Victor); sister, Lucille Sterling (Philip); 9 grandchildren: Martin Otero (Melissa); Phillip Jr. (Audrianna); Michael (Maudie); Dwayne Jr. (nickname DJ); Mariah Steckbauer; Jessica Montez (Adrian); Mikkayla Davis; Victor LeRoy Davis (nickname V.J.); Pablo Apodaca, and 12 great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Services will be held Monday, March 31, 2014, 10:30 AM, at Legacy Church, 720l Central NW. Burial with Military Honors, will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd., NE. Pallbearers will be Martin Otero, Phillip Otero Jr., Michael Otero, Victor Davis, Geno Fernandez, and Tony Montoya.
